Private tutors aren’t required by law to be registered with any regulatory body, or with The Tutor’s Association. But they are required by law to prepare and file their personal tax return. As soon as you start teaching as a self-employed, you have to register with HMRC, Obtain a UTR number and declare all your earnings from private tuition to HMRC. There are several students who are working as self employed with tuition franchises and providing private tuition but they are not register and don’t pay their taxes.
