What to Expect from CJRS This Christmas Season?

The good news is that you can claim all the coronavirus job retention scheme claims are open for the pay periods in December 2020. HMRC shares the following summary:

  • The UK government will pay around 80% of the employees to pay during the holidays. There’s a limit of £2,500 per month. Expect a review of this scheme in January.
  • If you want to submit the claims. Make sure you’re taking care of the deadlines. Claims must be made within 14 calendar days after the month they relate to. The weekends are exempted of these days. HMRC sends you out emails before the deadline is there.

 

What Else Do your Clients Need to Know?

  • Make sure you check out the CJRS calculator and other guidelines to be clear.
  • Make sure you keep a track of the amount you’ve claimed. Incase, HMRC needs to check.

What About the Notice Period?

If an employer is in a contractual or statutory position since 1st December, the employer cannot claim CJRS also if he’s applied for retirement or resignation.

What if an employer’s re-employs and furloughs someone?

If an employee was on payroll on 23rd September 2020, and stopped working for them after that period, and left during the corona period. If the employer hires them again and put them on furlough, the scheme is eligible for them too.

What if you Claim Too Much as An Error?

In case if you’ve taken up the CJRS grant, and you’re struggling to pay it back, you must get in contact with your accountant. Notify and repay the amount by whatever date applies. The dates are mentioned below:

  • 90 days from receiving the CJRS money you’re not entitled to
  • 90 days from the point circumstances changed so that you were no longer entitled to keep the CJRS grant.
